Lent and Holy Week are the most important ceremonial season for the Yoreme (Mayo) people. During this week, communities in Navojoa, Etchojoa and Huatabampo hold processions, prayers and pascola and deer dances at their ceremonial centers.
Activities and times differ in each community, and they are not a show: they are part of the residents’ religious life. Before you go, call OCV Navojoa or ask at your municipality’s tourism office.
Attending respectfully
Ask before taking photos or video. At some moments they are not allowed.
Do not touch masks, instruments or ceremonial objects.
Keep the dance and procession areas clear, and follow the guidance of the traditional authorities.
